so, as some of you saw on andy's post, my vader helmet became another trooping causalty of war. i have decided to salvage it. the face is very plyable now, due to heat? and the crack of course. so, i have reinforced the face plate, and cut my SPFX helmet in half. why? i think an ANH reveal would be differant enough that you will know its me. besides, ive never seen any one take an ANH lid and do this. worst case scenario is it dont work. lids already damaged. tonight i split the face. thats all for now folks!! updates and pics soon!

That totally sucks!!! That is now the second Vader lid that I know of from our garrison that has taken a big spill this year. I always cross my fingers that, that never happens to mine.

it still seems really strange that it would split where it did and that far up the mask, strange......

upon cutting that side of the face, my razor saw tore through an inch long section with ease. im thinking it was a weak spot that was a ticking time bomb.

Just for curiosity, who was the maker?

Most of my items are Portumac and have done a great job standing the test of time. I've battered mine up pretty good and it's hanging in there.

sooo, to save the autograph, i cut it free from the face and clear coated it. its safe now. i started to fill all the fan holes with fiberglass and re-inforced the face plate. no pics of that since its not really exciting. tomarrow i hope to remove the dome ring, and finish filling the holes in the face. sunday i hope to cut all 6 holes in the face for the reveal vents. any help on the measurement form vent to vent and rough size of the vents would help a great deal. :wavey:

good news everyone! (dr. farnsworth voice) i have found a free face plate!!!! a guy on the legion board has asked to trade my ANH stunt armor (the fenix set that dont fit) for a raw 20th century fox face plate casting. vader will be back in service soon! he also threw in a reveal resin detail kit for all the crown pieces. i told him the armor was rough, but he didnt care. ill let you know later this week when it arrives!

stuff is here and SWEET! the face plate needs minor work, a good casting. however it is in resin...... soo, i just got done with a fiberglassing marathon of 3 hours. i layed up very small sections to prevent warpage to the resin as the fiberglass cured. anyone who has ever re-inforced a sgt. fang helmet knows what im talking about! so, first layer of glass is on, tomarrow night i do layer 2. plan is for three layers for streangth. although, it has crossed my mind to leave this as an ESB face and after the reveal is done, cast the face for an ESB reveal and work another casting into an ROTJ reveal. that way i can keep the 20th century cast intact. im not breaking any recasting rules by doing that am i?

pics tomarrow. now its bed time.
